This is a mostly faithful remaster of the original I Wanna Be The Guy by Kayin, trying to balance the spirit of the original game with the desire for consistent physics like the fangames that came after, and fixing some of the jank. Besides this game he made I wanna go BANANAS!, I wanna be the DAREJAR & I wanna be the hanamogeta which are aswell a must play for those who enjoyed this type/style of games. I Wanna Be The Guy: The Movie: The Game is a sardonic loveletter to the halcyon days of early American videogaming, packaged as a nail-rippingly difficult platform adventure. Players fill the role of The Kid, a youthful, vaguely Megaman-esque protagonist on a quest to become The Guy. This inscrutable plot, however, is just a vehicle for a wide variety of inventive, well-designed and frustrating jump-and-shoot challenges that pay homage to many of the games you loved as a child. The ever-fragile Kid explodes in a shower of red pixels at the slightest brush from the game's many obstacles, from traditional spikes and bottomless pits to more unconventional killers, such as plantlife and puzzle pieces.
Using a multiroute layout not unlike a Metroidvania, the game grants a degree of deadly exploration, without thoseextraneous upgades meant to make life easier. The game provides players with a choice in terms of their deathrate, thanks to a variable difficulty setting that changes the number of save points from frequent to nonexistent. IWBTG is open to all players; knowledge of videogaming history is optional, and may not help against the frequently ironic and always sadistic deathtraps located herein. And so, the question is left up to you...

Avoiding Crashes
While IWBTG is a buggy game, over the years the community has figured out how to better cope with it's various problems. This information is copied from the IWBTG RTA speedrunning wikia ( http://iwbtgrta.wikia.com/wiki/Main_Page )To deal with random crashes...
Right-click IWBTG -> Properties -> Compatibility Tab -> Run in Windows 98 Mode -> Run as Administrator
This is generally takes care of most crashes but there are still a number of predictable ones.
There are 4 spots in the game where it is guaranteed to crash upon hitting 'R' (reset) even with the above fix. Fortunately there is a workaround thanks to Fate (formerly known as Kiyomi_) on Twitch! Hit F2 for New Game and reload your save file to avoid them.Save -> F2 -> Reload Save FileDo this on the Save Points following:
- The Mecha Birdo fight
- Dr. Wily, 2 screens over, where the drones shoot at you
- Mother Brain's red orb (same screen as above)
- The first save on the cart ride to The Guy's Fortress
Optimally, you should just hit F2 instead of 'R' upon death following these screens.
Fortunately you will not lose progress on these crashes. so even if you forget to avoid them you will be okay, outside of a minor inconvenience.

You know I love my sanity and patience, but boy this game was one of the few indie games back in the day. So many lps losing their minds over this.
Press 'Download Now' the red button, 'No thanks, just take me to the downloads', and click the red download button on 'iwbtg.exe'.
Fantastic classic. The controls are perfect, easy and simple to move and make precise jumps. Press right, go to the right, press left, go to the left. No speedups or unneeded sporks like in most platformers. To that, a small and a pleasant to play with hitbox.The spikes and cherries play a giant part in this game. Best part is the ending when you meet the final boss The Guy, i beat him and i am The Guy now!
In humor, this game still holds up to me. So far i beat this on hard, boshy on hardon, and am playing kamilia 2. This gave birth to a whole new genre of games! These games are mostly trial and error. Ultimate skill test.

Why is my game broken? No sounds or music plays, wait, the game is an 2007, it should have BEEN fixed! Maybe an 2019 edition?
The game is and will for the forseeable future remain unupdated Unfortunately the game does not function correctly in modern versions of MMF2 so even minor updates would require a huge overhaul. This might happen one day, but no time soon.
That said, this is an old problem that some people have experienced. You can try checking this thread. http://kayin.moe/iwbtg/forums/index.php?topic=366.0 also making sure you try setting things like windows compatibility mode or whatever.

Well uh... This is the game that has the massive fangaming community behind it's back. This isn't that great of a game, but it's fantastic for it's time. This is also the game that made me start my carrier as a game developer. 6/10
